My name is Janay Jumping Eagle from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Kyle, South Dakota. Last year, I took a stand against suicide. I dedicated my basketball season to suicide awareness and prevention. I was a freshman, but made the starting lineup of the varsity basketball team. I wrote some words on a basketball trying to lift up kids who were feeling sad and hopeless. I tried to show them and let them know that THERE IS HOPE. I don't want any family to have to go through the pain and hurt of losing someone to suicide. Me and my family know the pain of suicide and it is not good. So today, once again, I take a stand against suicide and hope to bring awareness to those who need it. Some of the issues that need to be addressed in my community are suicide, alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence, sexual violence, and child abuse. I wish we could all stand together and combat these terrible issues so that we can all live happy, healthy lifestyles. #ThereIsHope #TribalNations -JJE
